Industry!
August 10 - September 24, 2006
- Barkow Leibinger (NO)
- dRMM Architects (NO)
- Helen & Hard (NO)

The exhibition Industry! investigates the interplay between architecture and industry, with a special focus on how knowledge can be transferred between the fields. Three offices are presented: Barkow Leibinger Architects (Berlin, Germany), dRMM Architects (London, UK) and Helen & Hard (Stavanger, Norway). Through architectural installations, the offices are responding to an exhibition brief questioning how the relationship between architecture and industry has changed since the strong industrial influence on the early modernist architecture.
Barkow Leibinger Architects present new factory buildings, flexible planning strategies and new production technology developed for and in collaboration with the machine tool industry. dRMM present their “Industrial Ecology Manifesto” through a prefabricated, sustainable timber house prototype. With the project “Offshore Culture,” Helen & Hard study how technology and byproducts from the oil industry can be appropriated in architectural design and urban planning. The juxtaposition of the three installations aims to create an absorbing and ambitious exhibition design.
An exhibition catalogue is produced, presenting essays, interviews, exhibition sketches and architects’ statements. The exhibition is curated by Martin Braathen and Elisabeth Byre of 0047.
