What about next Friday, Mr Crusoe?

June 17 - July 02, 2005

Opening reception: Saturday, June 17th 7pm

0047 is proud to present the artists Endre Aalrust and Ole Martin Lund Bø.

In his works Endre Aalrust focuses on the power structures on a macro level and how they function as premises for behavior and relations. He displays and investigates how these structures appear inside and outside the arena of both art and language. The struggle for being in position or getting the upper hand, and the type of game this develops into are recurring themes in his works.

"I was seldom idle (...)"
Daniel Defoe: Robinson Crusoe, 1719

At 0047 he shows "What about next Friday Mr. Crusoe", an installation which consists of sculpture, photo and video. The installation is inspired by themes from Daniel Defoe’s novel Robinson Crusoe and the discussions later generated by the book: Exoticism, devaluation in a state of solitude, the moral importance of work and the relation between Friday and Robinson.

Ole Martin Lund Bø’s art focuses on the mass communication’s rhetoric versus its content. Using several techniques as photography, light signs and paintings, he has sought to separate the content from its original form.

At 0047 he will show an installation which main element is a layout proposal for a poster. The text is thus only showed as marked areas of the surface, or more specifically as gray squares on a white background. An edition of 4.000 copies of the layout proposal has been printed as posters (67 x 96cm) and then piled on the floor as a sculpture. By showing manipulated images of this sculpture, the language of product photography is being simulated. The content of the poster has been left out and only the simple principles of its form are left to be seen.

Endre Aalrust and Ole Martin Lund Bø both graduated from the Academy of Fine Art in Bergen, Norway in 2002. They currently live and work in Berlin.
